The president of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, Marcial Morales, and the manager of the Fuerteventura Tourist Board, Moisés Jorge, today welcomed the 22 candidates who would like to become Miss Germany 2018.
Both were received by the director of the hotel TUI Magic Life, Enrique Meyer, the deputy director, Claudia Uhl, the commercial and head of Hiring, Eloísa Gopar, and the promoters of the contest Inés Klemmer, Ralf Klemmer and Max Klemmer.
The candidates have been on the island since February 6. During these days, they participate in photographic and training sessions at the TUI Magic Life Hotel facilities before participating in the election of Miss Gernmay on February 24, at the Europa-Park Arena, the largest amusement park in Germany.
The presence of Miss Germany applicants on the island has aroused great interest in the German press, which has displaced writers and photographers to Fuerteventura, including the RTL television network.
From the Tourist Board it has been highlighted “the importance” of initiatives like this which serve to continue promoting the insular destination in Europe and, specifically, in Germany, the first European market bringing tourists to Fuerteventura.

The vice-president and tourism counsellor of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, Blas Acosta, attended the inauguration of the expansion of MTS Incoming, a company that provides services to tour operators such as Jet2, the most important British operator that operates with Fuerteventura, and Corendon with flights from Holland to Fuerteventura.
The event was also attended by the manager of the Fuerteventura Tourist Board, Moisés Jorge, and representatives of the local tourism sector, and it permitted to learn about the new facilities of this company that offers services in destination as transfers or excursions on the island to several tour operators.
Blas Acosta congratulated the executives of the company in Fuerteventura for “the good work done on the island and for the inauguration of these offices” in which services are provided to “tour operators such as Jet2, our main British operator with 18 weekly flights from the United Kingdom “.
The director of MTS on the island, Paloma Tomei, who was accompanied by the national director Juan Sanchez, recalled his beginnings in the company and thanked the 24 workers for his involvement in this work, that “represents many important tour operators whose clients we lodge and we make them enjoy selling our excursions”.

The path ‘La Senda del Mar’ is now called ‘Willy Brandt’
This Saturday, at the Iberostar l Palace Fuerteventura Hote, the conferences Tribute to Willy Brandt continued. The journalist and president of the Social Council of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Ángel Tristán Pimienta, recalled the legacy of Willy Brandt in Fuerteventura, after his visit to the island during Christmas of 1972. Tristán was one of the speakers who participated in the days of homage organized by the Tourist Board of Fuerteventura and the City council of Pájara in honor to the ex- German chancellor.
Angel Tristan was one of the journalists who followed closely the visit of the German politician, when Willy Brandt arrived in Fuerteventura by medical prescription to treat a respiratory condition.
Professor Patrica Hertel offered a conference in which she pointed out that the decision to choose Fuerteventura was not accidental. As she said “we must place Willy Brandt’s visit in the historical context, since Spain was under Franco’s dictatorship” and his intention was ” To put the media focus on Fuerteventura, and show his great interest in the destination” something that managed to “boost the tourism industry in the area.”

The figure of Willy Brandt returned to Jandía with the inauguration of a new promenade that will remind the former German chancellor and the importance that he had for the tourist impulse of Fuerteventura.
The tribute to the German politician included the presentation of a statue in his honour, as well as the inauguration of a photography exhibition on his stay on the island, which has had the collaboration of the Willy Brandt Institute.
The inauguration of the Tribute to Willy Brandt was attended by the president of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, Marcial Morales, the vice president and councillor of Tourism, Blas Acosta, the mayor of Pájara, Rafael Perdomo, Deputy of the Common, Jerónimo Saavedra, the councillor of Presidency of the Government of the Canary Islands Jose Miguel Barragán, as well as the Consul of Germany in the Canary Islands, Judith Elisa Metz.
Marcial Morales said that this tribute “is an expression of gratitude to the legacy of Willy Brandt, whose figure was providential for the island.” The president added that ” the German tourism in Fuerteventura started thanks to him, closely linked to Jandía.”
Blas Acosta recalled that this tribute aims to “thank and recognize the German people, fundamentally in the figure of Willy Brandt, their contribution to the local economy” as he said “the visit of the politician improved the quality of life of many families of the south of the island “.
Jerónimo Saavedra, in charge of reading the inaugural conference, praised the initiative of the Tourism Board and the City of Pájara for promoting this act and assured that thanks to the monument inaugurated “tourists of all nationalities will remember who was Willy Brandt. The historic Socialist and Deputy of the Common, Jerónimo Saavedra, will be in charge of imparting the inaugural conference of Homage to the former German Chancellor, Willy Brandt, that will be celebrated tomorrow Friday and Saturday 28 of October in the Iberostar Hotel Palace Fuerteventura.
The Vice-president of the Cabildo and Councillor of Tourism, Blas Acosta, said that with this tribute organized by the Fuerteventura Tourist Board and the City of Pájara, “we want to remember and thank the work that the German politician carried out in the tourist take-off of the island “.
It should be remembered that Willy Brandt chose the municipality of Pájara in 1972 to recover from a throat affection. His visits to the island were numerous and caused great expectation among the local and German press.

The growth during the first six months was 6.2% compared to the same period in 2016
The number of passengers last June was 473,775
The Fuerteventura Airport has received 2,846,344 visitors during the first six months of this year. This figure has increased by 6.2% over the same period last year.
This is clear from the statistics released this morning by Spanish Airports and Air Navigation (AENA) which also shows that the airport of the island received in June 473,775 visitors, which means an increase in passenger traffic by 8.3% with respect to the same month of 2016.
The Vice-President and Councillor of Tourism of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, Blas Acosta, stressed the growth of tourists registered from January to June 2017 and predicted that this figure will increase during the summer months “before the increase of both national and regional tourism that Is expected from July to September.
The statistics of AENA also indicate a growth in the number of operations during the last month of June of 3.6% to reach the 3,679 operations. The number of goods transported was 85,789, 10.2% more than in June 2016.

Iberia announced today that it will promote incentives to all those companies that want to hold congresses, conferences or professional meetings in Fuerteventura. These advantages will allow to continue positioning Fuerteventura as a congress and MICE destination.
The director of Institutional Relations of Iberia, Ricardo Palazuelos, and the company’s sales manager, Inma García, met this morning with the president of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, Marcial Morales, and the managing director of the Tourist Board, Moisés Jorge, To address this issue.
In addition, during the meeting the representatives of Iberia announced that they will offer to every company with more than 200 workers discounts in their national and international journeys, whether the trip is for personal or business reasons.
Marcial Morales thanked the representatives of Iberia, who promised to apply these advantages both for the Cabildo de Fuerteventura and for the Tourist Board.
